Yes. This post is about Peggy Chan. Or Mary-anne, her old name. HAHA. Or Chan Pui Kei. Anyway, she's this girl who looks like a malaysian but she's from HK. She's been my covenant friend for more than a year, and my good friend for almost 2 years, my friend for 3 years, and my aquaintance for 4 years.
Peggy and I were not friends at first sight. We're mutually not attracted to each other's personalities. To me she looked shy and rather boring. To her I looked like the 'mean' popular girls in her high school. HEHE. That is absolutely classic to hear. But in Daniel 5, we started to hang out a bit more, being the core girl JG's in Daniel 5. And during a difficult period in the end of 2005, she was my hang out companion for most of December. I would work in my stressful telemarketing job from 9am-1pm, and then got to the city to wait for Peggy to finish work, and eat lunch. Then, we would go watch movies or chat. Almost EVERYDAY. Of course, Alvin, Daniel Loo, and Jabez joined us quite frequently too. Ah the good old days...
I found Peggy the perfect friend for me actually. She's funny, talkative, and practical. Shes not a thinker, and she's more Sanguine than I am. More Phlegmatic than I am. But not Melancholic in the least. She can stand the worst teasing with a good natured shrug. [Actually she strikes back just as hard at Mel, Dan Le, Jabez and Dan Loo]. She's a real drama queen and frequently exaggerates emotions and situations. I find her really relaxing to talk to and be with.
Underneath that sometimes wild hair of hers, she's a smart capable girl who is strong and sweet. She's encouraging and loving, though her self esteem can be improved a lot. A bit insecure and always needing affirmation about decisions. But I provide that, as it's my love language. She provides genuine concern and involvement in my life. Availability and cheeriness.
Peggy's pretty gifted at worship leading...that's really cool to see, and GREAT to see her grow so much these 3 years we've been friends. And she is quite content to be where she is at MOST of the time. That's comforting to have around, as I'm such a workaholic achiever-type.
This post is to appreciate my deear covenant friend, and dear dear sister[as she always calls me, so now it's my turn]. Genuine affection is really hard to get in this world, even among Christians. I treasure this friendship with all my heart. Love you Pegs!
