January is over

Listening to:  별처럼 (Like A Star)  K-pop duet. Heh. Wonders never cease. Feels: That Taipei is really cold, damp and bad for my health. Tired. Thankful. A little stressed. It is the dawn of the 31st of January, 2011. In a less than 12 hours, I'll be flying to Malaysia AGAIN. Sometimes, I think if I should fly in and out so often. I can't seem to stay put in Taipei for long. So, this time, I should try to stay in Taiwan for 6 months. Stay out the full length of my tourist visa.  So tired. Should sleep. Blink~~ and January is over.  A few more friends officially became Australian. Fab, Sisi etc. Leaves me missing Australia a little. Just a little. A friend broke up with his girl-friend after years of dating. Leaves me just a little bit more disillusioned about happily ever after.  But quiet time with God has been rich.  Laterz

Do we really want Jesus to show up?

A short but powerful post by Pastor Steve Furtick of Elevation Church. A few quotes Do we really want Jesus to show up? What if Jesus comes and messes everything up? What if we ask Him to show up in our nation and the economy goes down? What if we ask Him to show up in our family and our kids decide our preferred career path for them isn’t God’s vision for them? AND Jesus’ presence may mess everything up. But by messing everything up, He is actually putting everything exactly where it belongs and positioning us for exactly what we need. And that’s Himself.

The Marrying Kind

I was listening to Kris Valloton's podcast called 'The Marrying Kind'. He and his wife sound so sweet together, though they are grandparents already. I must confess that as I grow older I'm slightly more cynical about this whole marriage and being with a soulmate thing. Don't know if in my heart of hearts that I believe in everlasting love among humans anymore.... I mean, God is God... He will last forever. But everything else is transient, so they tell me.  The more people or rather 'potentials' I meet, it's like my shell hardens just a little more. I know I'm still pretty young. Don't know why I should be jaded or cynical about it, especially when my parents and some of my older friends seem to have pretty happy and long-lasting marriages. Somehow I wonder if I have enough faith to believe that God will provide, even though Eph 3:20 says [and every preacher quotes]  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, acc...

Flooding and Admiration Anxiety

It's chaos in Brisbane right now. Funny how my world still somewhat revolves around Brisbane because of how many adult-life-long friends I have there. Well, they are all practically there. The friends that I've made in the 6 years I spent in Brisbane. Uni friends, church family, work colleagues... Half of my Facebook ppl come from Brisbane or previously lived in Brisbane. Therefore, everyone is buzzing about the flood and the panic that is sweeping over Queensland. Praying for the rains to stop and the floods to recede. And about admiration anxiety...I was chatting with a pal. And he coined this term for me. Admiration Anxiety = Being dismissive and suspicious of admiration and compliments from anyone. Basically holding a cynical view point about people who admire me because I'm suspicious of anything that smacks of hero worship. It made me think. Hmm. Maybe. I'm so anxious to be real and authentic and I KNOW the crazy amount of flaws and weaknesses and ugliness I ha...

GOOD TV Appearance

仆人的心 - "Heart of a servant": Singing and Playing 07:34 更新我心意 -"Change my heart": Playing Find this performance much better than the last one. Less cringing at my own vocals or piano. This is one of my favourite worship songs by City Harvest that I learnt here on the worship team of Home of Christ. After singing this a few times on the worship team, it's a lot more natural when you actually perform it on TV [well, duh].  I actually like the Mandarin version of this worship song better than the English. City Harvest has a knack of writing melodies that suit Chinese songs better than English, though the original is English. Find it funny. But I guess Singaporeans are ethnically Chinese after all. Just thank God for the opportunity to hone my skills in a less threatening, less pressurizing environment. Bit by bit, step by step.

Free

My pathway in music and the creative arts is constantly 'guided' or in a way 'hampered' by whether or not my product will stumble/offend people[mainly Christians] or offend God.  On the other side of the fence is the commercial market...what's the point of trying to make a living out of music if no one will buy it? It has to sell...somehow.  Sometimes, it is wisdom. Sometimes, it's a prison.  Oh! I LONG to be free to say and write and sing whatever I feel or think. But it seems rather impossible at this moment. Too many inhibitions. Fears. To some extent, despite her obviously kooky sometimes almost evil stance, I envy crazy people like Lady Gaga. They are free to be crazy, ugly, truthful, fantasy-oriented and everything they want to be if they conceptualize it.  I'm a little weary. I haven't even plunged into the deep end yet. In 2009 I decided to get all my swimming gear ready. In 2010, I stepped into the pool but I've only splashed around the ...

Oh OH, I'm an alien. I'm a legal alien~~

Check out Sting's gem of a song HERE . Jazz lovers would also appreciate Branford Marsalis's gorgeou-licious saxophone lines!! Lyrics:  "Englishman in New York" I don't drink coffee I take tea my dear I like my toast done on one side And you can hear it in my accent when I talk I'm an Englishman in New York See me walking down Fifth Avenue A walking cane here at my side I take it everywhere I walk I'm an Englishman in New York I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said Then he's the hero of the day It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile Be yourself no matter what they say I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York I'm an alien I'm a legal alien I'm an Englishman in New York Modesty, propriety can lead to notoriety You could end up as the only one...
