Roses and Candles

Let's go back all the way to March when T proposed, shall we? Honestly, I already sensed it was coming because we were going to leave for Australia in a week and he had planned to propose before then. However, he put a lot of thought into it and I appreciated the effort with all my heart! We were out on a simple dinner date. He had already given the keys to a  couple of life group friends who were in the know. Their job was to decorate the place with whatever T had already purchased beforehand. T then asked me to swing by his place, and when we entered the place was all aglow… The gals had done a fantabulous job with the decor!  "Marry me" and a heart of candles. Petals everywhere. He knelt Most importantly a bunch of people burst out from behind with their phones and cameras I was laughing, not crying… It wasn't easy to absorb what was happening around me, and respond in a ecstatic manner.  I said yes after his spee...

And this made my day...

THIS  was unexpected and pleasant and encouraging. Thanks so much for the mention Jas!  Shout out to my friends [blogger or otherwise] who've never stopped encouraging me and believing in me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! It has been quite an exhausting February. I'm now at Burger King, trying to make full use of the Wi-Fi and the air-conditioning. I was cheated out of 15 bucks just now by a taxi driver, and that got me a little grumpy. Also, my flight to Taipei is at 5.30pm. So now, I need to kill an hour or 2 before I head back to LCCT and bum around with all the 'budget-airliners'.  On the bright side, getting my passport/visa from the embassy today was quite a breeze. Thank you Daddy God for that. Everything went quite smoothly and the officer didn't give me much grief. I wish I could just stay a solid 6 months in Taipei this time, but looks like I'll be flying out to the States in April, or Malaysia in July, or both. So....argh . Never-mind. I need to s...

Stepping into another person's shoes

It's almost 2011. Reflecting on many things. Girding up myself mentally and emotionally before plunging into the deep ocean of the unknown!  I clicked on a good buddy's page Facebook page. He's been a part of the group that I hung with all those years in Brisbane. The people who are around for graduations and birthdays. The people who are  close enough to frustrate you occasionally but who are there to help you move house and drive you to the airport. It hits me occasionally that I was incredibly blessed to have had friends around me to share life with. I remember many a time that I've wanted to be someone's close friend. Someone I deemed out of reach. Someone 'cool' or someone 'hip'. Or I wanted to be part of a circle that excluded me. The remnants of the adolescent in me still cries for acceptance from everyone, and especially anyone considered cool. 'Cool' can mean many things in different contexts, but it basically meant whoever was pop...

Thanksgiving: 2010 and family

This is a thanksgiving post. For 2010 and especially for my family in Malaysia.  I don't regret 2010. It has been one of the best years of my life. It almost tops 2003. 2003 has always been THE highlight year of happiness, spiritual growth and abundance for me. 2010 comes pretty close. 7 year cycle, how biblical and complete the number is [haha].  This is not to say that 2010 has had its moments that I wish I could have made more of. I've wasted quite a bit of time here and there doing nothing, and fretting while I was doing nothing. I've sometimes drowned my restlessness with too many youtube videos, online surfing and Facebook clicking. I've tossed around, not being able to sleep because internal rest is a struggle. I haven't really GRABBED every moment to make the most of them. But overall, I've been on the right path, I've met great people, God is smiling at me because I'm living the dream!!!!  Yes! I'm living the dream. Not just my dream, but...

TBC A hair trim session should be booked A wedding gig And a ton of decisions and agreements to be signed/made Presents/cards need to be purchased for my Taiwan 'family' 17 days....argh!

You've got a friend

When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right. Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there to brighten up even your darkest nights. You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, you've got a friend. If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds and that old north wind should begin to blow, keep your head together and call my name out loud. Soon I will be knocking upon your door. You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there. Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?  People can be so cold. They'll hurt you and desert you. Well, they'll take your soul if you let them, oh yeah, but don't you let th...

To Mom

Haha. it's 11.25 pm. I have 10 days before my thesis is due. I've been fairly productive, and I REALLY praise God for his continual sustenance. This is really the hand of God. I usually take 2-3 days to finish 1000 words or so. I've been able to type incessantly and edit incessantly, pumping out about 1000 or more a day. Thank you to all who are praying for me. Please don't stop. HAHA. it's not over yet. Everything will be over on the 14th of Nov. I COVET your prayers, even short 10 second ones. I'm taking a short mental break from writing about THE TRANSITION OF WORSHIP MUSIC OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS. I'm here to honour my Momma. I've spent some time in the past praising my dear Papa, who is one of the best Dads I know. I don't know how many people can boast of a father who is both a financial provider, a natural leader, as well as a spiritual leader of the household and of many. But this post is of Mom. I owe much of ...

Pastor Lai Ling

This post is dedicated to my dear pastor and spiritual 'mother' Pastor Lai Ling. Although I respect Pastor Wilson as my dear pastor as well, who is wise, calm, balanced, visionary and preaches solid sermons, I have had the privilege to interact with Ps. Lai Ling more personally and experienced something of this wonderful woman's heart. Ps. Lai Ling is one of the most godly women I know. A woman of prayer, she is also one of those who give consistently sharp prophetic words that really speak to the situation people are in. The many prophetic words she has given me have really helped me in the past 4 years to not give up, but press on toward what God has for me. [I'm sure God will give her lots of nice rewards in heaven, for edifiying me and many others]. A quality I really admire is her capacity to be sympathetic with everyone she ministers to and to hear them out [evident pastoral gifting and heart]. If anyone should be awarded 'best pastor/shepherd...

Peggy, my dear friend

Yes. This post is about Peggy Chan. Or Mary-anne, her old name. HAHA. Or Chan Pui Kei. Anyway, she's this girl who looks like a malaysian but she's from HK. She's been my covenant friend for more than a year, and my good friend for almost 2 years, my friend for 3 years, and my aquaintance for 4 years. Peggy and I were not friends at first sight. We're mutually not attracted to each other's personalities. To me she looked shy and rather boring. To her I looked like the 'mean' popular girls in her high school. HEHE. That is absolutely classic to hear. But in Daniel 5, we started to hang out a bit more, being the core girl JG's in Daniel 5. And during a difficult period in the end of 2005, she was my hang out companion for most of December. I would work in my stressful telemarketing job from 9am-1pm, and then got to the city to wait for Peggy to finish work, and eat lunch. Then, we would go watch movies or chat. Almost EVERYDAY. Of course, Alvin, Daniel Loo,...
