It's great to be alive and today God impressed upon my heart to start sharing whatever little lessons that I've learnt in my time with him in the morning. Spending time with God has really been my strength, so continue to BREATHE God in every breath even when we're all busy.:) [Yes i know, busy. For those reading this, please pray for Charis to finish her thesis excellently and IN TIME for the 26th of Oct]
The passage is Matt 20:29-34 (NASB)
29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him.
30 And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
31 The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" 32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?"
33 They said to Him, "Lord, we want our eyes to be opened."
34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.
How did these blind men approach Jesus in a way that distinguished themselves from others that Jesus had passed by?
There must have been a lot of people following Jesus, or watching Jesus pass by. I'm sure everyone had needs, and everyone had their own situations where they needed God's touch. There were a few key things that these men did that really hit me--we can really learn to have this attitude in prayer!!
The blind men were:
- DESPERATE: Yelling out at all costs to get Jesus's attention. Imagine everyone trying to get them to shut up and still making a big commotion because they were desperate for the touch of God. How desperate are we for the touch of God that we would make a fool of ourselves in a contemporary setting?
- BOLD: They did not fear man. They boldly YELLED for God's attention. J[oyce Meyer in her book the power of simple prayer talks about God being pleased with our boldness to come before the throne room and not giving in to fear, God is not pleased with those who shrink back all the time in fear.
- SAW and ACKNOWLEDGED WHO GOD IS: These blind men called Jesus the Son of David. To do that means they saw and acknowledged that he was the Messiah, the ONE that God had sent as He had promised. We need to have clear spiritual vision of who God is, and the role he plays in the world and in our lives when we come to Him, or many of our prayers have the wrong perspective. Or we might ask the wrong things, when we have the wrong idea of who God is.
- HUMBLE: They cried,"Have MERCY on us". It was not because of how great they were or how much they deserved to be heard, but they pleaded for God's mercy to be upon them. Likewise, we can all do the same, having the confidence that God hears us, not beacuse of our own works, but because of His grace and mercy, that NEVER FAILS
- SPECIFIC: "We want our eyes to be opened". Do we know exactly what we want? Many times we don't. And so we don't ask specifically either. James 4:2 You do not have because you do not ask. Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. If we do not know our desires, it is pretty hard for God to give it to us. When we start specifiying our desires, God can then advise us, mould us[if the desires are not exactly in His will] and the desire is godly, GRANT it to us.
In conclusion, you know the end of the story, Jesus in his COMPASSION, moved to heal these 2 men And they followed him [isn't it great? They didn't just dissappear. they followed Jesus]
Hope this blesses you all.
