I was watching Suki Low on youtube. She is the winner of One in a Million, a singing competition in Malaysia that's modeled off Idol.
She has a really good voice. She's talented, and she can write in Chinese and in Malay. And she was only 16 when she did all of this. She laps up limelight and is very confident.
However, I was pretty unimpressed by the delivery of this clip below.

It was a rendition of Alanis Morissette's 'You Oughtta Know'. It's one of the most powerfully angsty songs written. Raw emotion. The point of Alanis's music is not the polish or the entertainment....It's the heart - to - heart sharing of her stories. Her pain.
This performance was technically excellent. As the judges commented, low notes were really good. Her performance had energy and commitment.
BUT, IT WAS THE WRONG ENERGY. Something so angsty and so raw [please, the song has swear words, references to sex etc], and you see a 16 year old bopping along the stage, looking like A-Mei, and singing a song like this with a big smile on her face!!!!!
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
NONONONONONO. Big boo boo. Almost sacrilege. I'll explain myself better. I don't mean that I am that fond of the song, but there jumping around, shaking your hips to lyrics like the ones featured below is missing the entire point of the song!
