It's been sometime since I updated this blog. About a month. I've been to Malaysia, Singapore and Brisbane/Gold Coast....and it's been heaps of fun. I did get violently and thoroughly sick in Malaysia though. All the built up stress from rushing for deadlines in Taipei. I spent the rest of the holidays recovering from it.
Well, I've just updated people about these 2 videos I recorded in July and August. They are long overdue. I thought I'd elaborate a bit more about the songs and also about the videos here, and not bore everyone in the general updates.
I killed a butterfly
For those who bought my last EP 'Illogical', the English version was featured there. And yes, in 2006 I was sitting in my friend Daniel Loo's car, when he hit the brakes and said, "I think I killed a butterfly!!].

It was splattered on the windshield of his car. I thought, 'Whoa, what a good song subject!!'. I wrote it 2 years later with my long-time collaborator, John Ong.
The Chinese lyrics came in a fit of inspiration in May, as I was traveling back from Taipei to KL. It was a GREAT feeling to have Mandarin lyrics come to me, as it's rare for me to write in Mandarin. Sharon, my lyrics partner in Taiwan helped me add the chorus and tidy things up here and there. And Voila!!! I decided to change the chorus of the song so that I could write a catchier Chinese chorus. It's more structured than the English.
How did Snow White and the Dwarf come about? Well, Ray (a singer/songwriter/guitarist friend) and I were running through the song and somehow, because he was wearing white, the idea that he was Snow White came about RANDOMLY. So I guess that since I'm small, I had to be the Dwarfie Side-kick. I don't know...can't control the crazy things that come up when you record videos of practices....
Sunlight in July 七月的阳光
It was REALLY hot in Taipei in July. It was bad as Malaysia. I was walking down the hill to the MRT, feeling very grumpy about the weather and missing someone badly, and somehow these lyrics came to me....just 2-3 lines. It took me a night to get them all out and fit them to a melody. But it's my FIRST complete Chinese song I wrote all by myself without anyone's help. So whether it's good or bad, I'm very proud of my baby. Ray was helping me play through it again....:)
Here's Ray's channel as well....and a link to one of his performances. He sings beautifully in Chinese and English!!! Oh, and did I mention he's a marvelous comic artist too?! Some people can just do anything :( hehe...:) I'm blessed to know this brother in Christ and his wife, Eva.
Anyways....enjoy!!!
