Fairy Tale Ending
...is my latest youtube video, released 1.5 days ago. So far, the response to the video and the song has been fairly positive. Quick and direct as well (the quickest I've ever obtained 22 likes on youtube. It is now my highest rated video, even above 慢慢. In 2 days, that's a small achievement). I put in quite a bit of effort in making this video. Firstly, recording with a good camera (thanks Aeon), and then with all the subtitles, the lyrics and splicing. Of course, my views are just a drop of insignificance in the OCEAN of Youtube. Honestly, I despair of any video of mine ever going viral in a good way sometimes. Youtube is now overloaded with all kinds of people who are sometimes terribly good and sometimes just terrible. I mean, with Youtube stars like David Choi and Clara C having hundreds and thousands of subscribers [or a million of them, like Nigahiga], what are my extremely paltry 300 -1500 views? It's sad. But one must not despise the days of small beginnings, even if they are embarrassingly puny.
If I could have a Back To The Future time machine, I would go back to my old self in 2005/2006, and instruct young Charis to start posting videos on Youtube. Collaborate with John every month. Write songs all the time. Cover stuff. Invest in an iMac somewhere along the way. Make friends with the LA youtube gang. I probably would have stood a chance at becoming a Youtube star by now. Well....too late. It's 2011. About 4-5 years too late.
Apologies for the whinge. But it can get disheartening to try to be heard above all the internet traffic and noise. And when so many people are a lot better at what I do.
About the song
The 'still' of the video very aptly sums up the whole song. "Boys should just keep their rings and their 'I love you's" :-). I've been writing a spate of these half sweet/half cynical songs to get all the unspoken musings out of my system. I wrote this on guitar, just like 'Phantom Pain', and 'You'. It's quite interesting to write songs on guitar, though my guitar skills are shockingly inadequate for performing anything by myself [if I could sing/write/play piano like me AND play guitar like John Ong, I'd be an absolute star by now, I think. Female guitarists who play guitar like John Ong are very rare].

Personally, I'm proud of the song, and others I've written during this period, like 57 days. I think they are well-crafted, and the lyrics are far from banal balderdash, yet vulnerably poetic.
Enjoy.
