Before someone is 'trending'

This is Jeremy Lin, the latest hot topic on Facebook and on the Taiwanese news. I've seen Jeremy Lin in KevJumba's videos last year. I wasn't too interested in the fact that he was an NBA player for the Golden State Warriors, because basketball has never been a remote interest of mine. But I did notice that he seemed like a pretty devout christian.

I wasn't too impressed when everyone on FB started posting about Jeremy because it is so easy to get caught up in hype and forget it a week later. And Jeremy is o-so-cool now to everyone because he scored 25 points for the New York Knicks. To be honest, I felt a bit turned off. I was asking inside, where was everyone when he didn't score 25 points? He was probably at his greatest when he was trusting God while he was sitting on the bench. I didn't want to post about him, because I felt it was shallow.

But I found out that before Jeremy was absolutely hot stuff, GOOD TV already did an interview on him last year. Since it wasn't made because GOOD TV just hopped on the 'trend' band wagon, I decided to check it out. He speaks in English, though the interviewer asks questions in Mandarin. I was really touched by his God-centredness and it's encouraged me a lot through this time.

His mother said something profound in the interview. She said that in supporting a child through something, it was more about the process rather than the goal. And it was more about building character together with the technique than just achievement. Wow.. Wise mom. Jeremy has good roots.

Love Alicia...but....

I've loved Alicia Keys since I was a teenager. She's gorgeous, talented, with an impeccable image of ghetto funkiness plus classy elegance. Love her voice and love her ideas. But....the lyrics....have more often than not been ...disappointing. I do think this article provides accurate critique of her work.

There is still a chance for the 71,849 single men

I opened my facebook profile and LO and BEHOLD, I saw a string of comments, wall comments and msgs in my inbox congratulating me about my 'not-single anymore status'. Why? Because I decided to remove the 'single' listing on my Facebook profile. I merely didn't want to post it up anymore. A whim that resulted in... HILARIOUSNESS! Here are a couple of samples: "Charis has been woozy since thursday, is it luvvve??" "huh? o_O? is there something i don't know??" "so when u going to belanja us all makan??? >. "heh.... really!?....there are 71,849 single men in brisbane who will be very dissapointed... very.." "is this for real .. if so, congrats charis :-)" "Hey great news to hear, Congrats loh! By the way who is the lucky Guy?" " Hey. No longer single? Share some news. ;) " Man o man!
