22 months old

I wish blogged more regularly about parenthood and kept milestone records more diligently. But life happens...Whoosh and we're into 22 months of official parenthood (plus the 9 months of expectant parenthood).

Bubby turns 2 really soon.  Everyone we've met has commented that he's grown to be such a big boy. No longer a baby, not even really a toddler anymore. He's 2 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs a hefty 13.1kg. He's muscular with a comfortable padding of cute baby fat, has round eyes with double lids, a cute bowl cut, and a smile that lights up the room. He can walk like a pro, and run around quite efficiently now. He climbs like a monkey, has great arm and leg strength, good balance, a startling sense of direction.

Bubby is quite an early talker, especially considering that he's a boy. Also a clear enunciator. Some interesting scenarios lately:

Currently he can say, 'C'mon man' (obviously imitating T)  whenever T hits the brakes, or ‘小心’ (that would be copying me)! It's funny because we never taught him those phrases. And it's interesting that he can co-relate the feeling of T hitting the brakes with these phrases. It's 'monkey see monkey do' at the moment.

Another time we went to the Marriott to see his aunt S, and he exclaimed, '阿嬤' once he entered the hotel lobby. We had been to the Mariott 1-2 times before to visit my in laws. But that was 4-5 months ago, when he was only 1.5 years old. I find it quite astounding that he could remember the hotel lobby and co-relate with visiting his grandma! Smart little munchkin.

Some other things he says:
"不要聽話” - one of the first phrases he spouted out. Sigh. Little terror.
“痛痛, 搽藥”
"Bubby 受傷"
“子餓了 (肚子餓了)”
"Oatmeal! Berry! Cherry!"
"吃蛋蛋 EkK (egg)"
"媽媽不見了!爸爸不見了!“
”媽媽/爸爸機澡 (媽媽洗澡)”
“看 Moana, 看看Moana"
"長頸鹿!Giraffe! Lion King! 鳥, Koala, Bear, Duck, Tiger ....(and every animal that he spots. That's his main pool of vocab at the moment).

He can read A-H and the corresponding nouns, knows 1-2-3, and has some basic color recognition skills.
Currently has meltdowns if refused his favourite Moana show, or the Lion King. Also throws tantrums if we don't pay him enough attention. But overall he's a social little guy, and pretty much everyone we meet loves him as he can be very charming outside the home. Adaptable, usually not shy, has a very cute laugh and smile, and is very affectionate.
Bubby loves rhythmic songs, loves the drums, loves guitar driven tunes, loves to dance and jump around, and makes microphones out of his Duplo sets to sing 'ooh ooh ooh" by himself.

So far these are what I can think of. Just wanted a little record of our not so little Bub as he will be grown up before we know it.

Love Alicia...but....

I've loved Alicia Keys since I was a teenager. She's gorgeous, talented, with an impeccable image of ghetto funkiness plus classy elegance. Love her voice and love her ideas. But....the lyrics....have more often than not been ...disappointing. I do think this article provides accurate critique of her work.

There is still a chance for the 71,849 single men

I opened my facebook profile and LO and BEHOLD, I saw a string of comments, wall comments and msgs in my inbox congratulating me about my 'not-single anymore status'. Why? Because I decided to remove the 'single' listing on my Facebook profile. I merely didn't want to post it up anymore. A whim that resulted in... HILARIOUSNESS! Here are a couple of samples: "Charis has been woozy since thursday, is it luvvve??" "huh? o_O? is there something i don't know??" "so when u going to belanja us all makan??? >. "heh.... really!?....there are 71,849 single men in brisbane who will be very dissapointed... very.." "is this for real .. if so, congrats charis :-)" "Hey great news to hear, Congrats loh! By the way who is the lucky Guy?" " Hey. No longer single? Share some news. ;) " Man o man!
