Soulmate

I'm a little too exhausted mentally and physically to write about the tour. And there's the Taiwan leg to prepare for as well. Finished the tour with 3 resounding thoughts: I really want to make it as a singer-songwriter. And I really want discover my soulmate. And above all, God is still my destiny. "Who doesn't long for someone to hold? Who knows how to love you without with being told... Somebody tell me why I'm on my own if there's a soulmate for everyone."

Off again - HK and Malaysia!!

Tomorrow, I will land in Hong Kong for the first time. I'm touring with the kids ministry, OmniPro productions again. This time, the tour is much longer. It's Omni's first step outside Taiwan. And the Malaysian tour was mainly organised by my Dad. So more prancing around with a note on my head, and a fake keyboard on my arm. Benefits from this ministry experience? I get to practice stage performing and acting in Chinese. Haven't done too much of acting or memorizing lines in Chinese in my life, so this is good training. Observing, and performing with other people who are way more natural at hosting and acting than I am is also very good practice for my future stage skills.  To be honest, I love the stage, but conditionally. I love it when everything is in it's right place [like audience that is not bored or hostile or un-relatable], or I love it when I know what I'm doing up there. One of the more traumatic stage experiences I had was when I was 13, I was semi...

GOOD TV arrangements - Classical voices+ revamped old hymns

What have I been up to in May/June? Well, this classical/hymns/pop crossover concert actually. Below is a recording of one of the songs [most of the songs we played at the concert were also recorded at GOOD TV a few weeks earlier]. It was a lot of hard work arranging all these songs. I am not a quick arranger, and a lot of the results are still very imperfect after all that work. But it is what I can do at the moment. 5 loaves and 2 fishes offered. At least, there's always room for improvement... Enjoy. It is a medley starting at 03.27.  What can I give you Lord?  Jesus, rose of Sharon I'd rather have Jesus

Always good to listen to Francis Chan now and again

Taiwanese-ified

Rewind back a year. I would have looked at this sentence and scratched my head....Who writes like that? Well, me, apparently now, to my Taiwan mates [woops, rewind back 4 years and I would NOT be using the term 'mates'] 哈哈哈 幹嘛醬~沒有那麼奢侈啦~ 不~曉得叻~除非要到師大/古亭附近走一走 A basic translation: Hahaha Why you so like that? (this translation betrays my Malaysian-ness, but I can't think of a better way to translate   幹嘛醬 ) I don't live that luxuriously. I~~don't know ler~~Unless we walk around to Shida/GuTing Cultural adaptation....adding more countries to the pot of Charis...

Comfortable in my own skin....

I am not a person who has ever been very comfortable in my own skin. Identity has always been a source of great struggle for me. The different facets of being Malaysian, being Chinese, being Oriental....they've always 'bothered' me. Of course, there are so many other sub-cultures...growing up in a Northern Malaysian Chinese culture, "Keat Hwa" school culture, volleyball team culture, orchestra culture etc. Then, there is Christianity and the all the millions of subcultures around the faith. Thinking about them makes me grow dizzy. I'd rather not.  There's a lot of tension or be in a melting pot of cultures. What makes it worse: my tendency to really want EVERYBODY to like me. People pleaser. I try to be everything and I try to be cool. And usually, it doesn't work. I meant to post about this ages ago, but I was too lazy to unravel all these complicated thoughts. Watching this video today made the tangle of thoughts about identity resurface again....

JESUS IN JAZZ

Well, not exactly jazz. Jazz -tinged gospel?? I feature on the first track and on the last track ( last track is a rerun). I was pretty pleased with my little piano licks. They were tasteful and not out of place. But we so needed a truly 'swing' rhythm section, not attempted swing [which is what I hear most of them time here in Taiwan]. All the tracks feature friends of mine from different churches. Have a listen and enjoy!! 寧靜時分2011-06-23 www.youtube.com ‎1. Without Him: 史茵茵 2. 美麗的夜裡:李匯晴 3.
