Because He Lives

Because He Lives, by the Chua sisters!! This time, I roped in Liz, Feebs and Dorcas to join me in this little ditty. It has been great to hang out and chill with family during this Christmas season. Mentally, I was in dire need of a break from my Taipei lifestyle. November was pretty bad: frequent insomnia, lingering 2-month-old cough, random heart palpitations etc. Although the workload was not that heavy, but the stress of my uncertain future, odd hours, as well as the very kooky personalities one has to deal with each day caused me to mentally stretched till almost breaking point.  I'm back in Taipei in a few days. Breathing very deep before plunging into 2011. Honestly, I sometimes just wanna scream and run away. My scared self is very scared... 2011 is crunch time in many ways and I'm wondering if I have enough passion and drive to last this whole journey. But I wanted to sing this song to remind myself, because Jesus lives, I can face tomorrow, one day at a time. No ma...

Stepping into another person's shoes

It's almost 2011. Reflecting on many things. Girding up myself mentally and emotionally before plunging into the deep ocean of the unknown!  I clicked on a good buddy's page Facebook page. He's been a part of the group that I hung with all those years in Brisbane. The people who are around for graduations and birthdays. The people who are  close enough to frustrate you occasionally but who are there to help you move house and drive you to the airport. It hits me occasionally that I was incredibly blessed to have had friends around me to share life with. I remember many a time that I've wanted to be someone's close friend. Someone I deemed out of reach. Someone 'cool' or someone 'hip'. Or I wanted to be part of a circle that excluded me. The remnants of the adolescent in me still cries for acceptance from everyone, and especially anyone considered cool. 'Cool' can mean many things in different contexts, but it basically meant whoever was pop...

Life

The luscious grapes you want are always one step out of reach.... The random other fruits you don't want tumble on your head and mess up your hair all the time....it's super annoying. Rad. I'm being sarcastic. But it's been an interesting week

Decisions...decisions

Current favourite songs:  If it kills me (acoustic) - Jason Mraz Thinking of you - Katy Perry Offbeat - Clara Chung Together - Kinna Grannis Glory - Jaeson Ma I have become and i-Tunes -er. A random downloader of singles instead of a buyer of albums. Argh. Sometimes, I wonder if I should be a producer/arranger instead of an artist just because I love all kinds of styles. Being an artist limits the genres you can dabble in. Sigh. Being an i-Tunes-er won't help!! More access to even more kinds of music!!! Of course, I do lean towards a number of styles. Acoustic, Soul, Jazz-pop, Alternative piano-pop, Jazz, Old RnB etc. Still. Sigh. How does one find a niche? FOCUS!

And Ordinary Person going Up and Down, Hot and Cold, CrAZyeeeeee

"Ordinary People" It's been a crazy few days emotionally. Man, 'showbiz' can take it's toll on you! A little taste of it and I'm already spinning around, wondering what to do with my roller-coaster feelings. It's no wonder so many ppl in showbiz go into rehab, get suicidal or something bad and drastic. Or they quit and retire.  On one hand, I had my first pseudo-negative comment on Youtube today. By a friend. An honest comment. He didn't like it and he's entitled to his opinion. And then I had half-compliments from Facebook friends, "Oo..I like your singing but only the Malay half of the song you sang". And on Youtube, someone deliberately created an account today just to like the 'Ordinary People' video above. The same person commented that they loved Ray [didn't say anything about me...but at least they didn't comment anything negative]. And this person went to my GOOD TV link and said, "I like Charis singing ...

A little encouraging comment...

Thanks to the person who said that I have a beautiful singing voice. Reflections on my vocal debut on GOOD TV

Kasih Setia-mu/我感受了主的慈爱 [07:28 onwards] I'm terribly sleepy. It's 1am and I've been busy the whole day doing music stuff. I recorded a video for Youtube with my guitarist friend, Ray Lin. We had a blast talking about music stuff and recording the vid. Then I rushed home to do up some chord charts for myself, slip in a bit of practice, pack up some clothes and then head to GOOD TV for the recording of 2 songs with Shih Ying-ying, a prominent gospel independent artist in Taiwan.  I came home at 11pm, and watched my solo singing debut on GOOD TV's quiet time program. And honestly, I cringed. I think I cringe every time I see myself on TV. It was a little sad, but all I could think of is, man, I need to lose 3-5 kg's, my face looks like a dumpling...ARGH. Then, I started paying attention to the performance and I grew even more depressed...I sound so mediocre. :(. All I could think was ,"I really wish I had a stunning, unique voice. I wish my piano skills were lik...
