Gigs, sore throats and resting

Hi All I have a sore throat. It's annoying. But I always seem to get one due to my constant sneezing[sinus problems] in M'sia. Then it affects my tonsils. And then it affects my throat. I'm allergic to dust, dust mites and humidity aggravates everything. Nevertheless, praise God, I landed a gig yesterday through Dad of all people. It was a function for malaysian engineers. I earned something decent. Now I can pay for my facial products and clothes for new year! I was reading Pat Morely's Man in the Mirror...7 seasons ...something like that. It talked about burnout and recovering...and taking time.... I feel like I experienced a little burn out...just a little bit to get me a bit mopey and unfeeling about things. Just need to take a little time to recover bakc the joy of the Lord and stop rushing ahead like a crazy steamtrain. Happy New Year everyone!

At the airport.....

Hi All I'm here at the Changi Airport in singapore again, thanking God for free internet to ease my boredom for the next 3 hours. I'm dead tired! But I managed to watch Hairspray on the plane before sleeping. Food was good. Hairspray was good too! A little cheesy and a little surreal[like a fairy tale]. But great singing and dancing. Thanks Tendi for recommending it. I'm going home at last for a break. I haven't had a break since uni ended.it's been Work Work Graduation and more packing up. And my parents visited as well. Now I can go home and chill, though church at home prob wants me to be involved in a couple of things. Thanks everyone who was at my graduation! Every Daniel X person, every HBCC person and of course my parents. Mom and Dad were great: making me bouquets, giving me gifts etc. Although I didn't get first class honours, I still felt really privileged and spoilt by everyone who made time to be there. NO other person had so many friends around the...

Big sister Jos's post was great!

Trapped in a Mirror Image Oddly enough, a glass of beer taught me something about how to follow Christ.Puzzled? Alarmed? Don't worry; just stay with me for a while.Let's start by looking at our culture's obsessions: sex, shopping, superficial beauty, consumerism, self-will, instant gratification, the idea of doing "whatever makes you feel good right now." You don't have to be a Christian to see that chasing after these ideas of happiness leads to some dark, destructive places. What's different about being a Christian is that we actually have a positive alternative: life in Christ. Great—but how do we move from being on the path to darkness, to being on the path to light? Here's a thought: If we are the mirror image of this dysfunctional culture, rejecting everything it values, won't that put us firmly on the path to the light?Well ... no.You see, we are called not to be slaves, but to be free. And when you mirror something, it still dictates what y...

Failure, Success and Perfectionism

The enemy likes to attack us where we are weak. And sometimes, they know us better than ourselves. I think depression and a sense of failure or never being good enough has been haunting me on and off for many years. These few days, I was struggling with invisible forces that kept shouting thoughts like "how pathetic that effort is" and "no matter how hard you try you're going to fall short". Others "God's promises give you great expectations that are never met" and "just gear yourself up for the real world, where bad things always happen". I know there are others who struggle like me. Struggle to discern whether the voices are your own or from the enemy. Struggle to renew and rebuke when you're tired and dissapointed. Struggle to thank God when trouble or dissapointment chokes your heart. God was saying yesterday, 'Charis where do you stand? Standing in Me , nothing is impossible. You will always have what u need' Where is ...

Discernment and Malaysia....i'm actually blogging about it

I've just had a most thought-provoking chat with my mom. I don't know why, but the latter half of 2007 has brought much difficult information for me to digest. Issues that are international, spiritual and political. I believe this season that the Lord has appointed for me is one of patience, honing character and of learning discernment. I've never been particularly strong in discernment. Spiritual or otherwise. however, things have changed. God is pushing me forward.I've always thirsted for wisdom and knowledge. I prayed everyday for it for 2 years, and also for the spiritual gifts related to it. This is wisdom and knowledge in a higher level. Seeing things through God's eyes, I believe, is true discernment. Just before my exams, I was busily looking up information about famous ministers and ministries around the world. I was curious to see what the public thought of them, how they used their money, and if I personally felt their doctrine or fruits were sound and go...

I was unexpectedly tagged

Hmm....6 weird things. And tagging another 6 weird people to write 6 weird thing about themselves? Mei....Didn't quite expect that from you... haha. Ok, perhaps I'm young too.:P. 1. My stomach is elastic. it EXPANDS for sushi and steak. And expensive steamed fish and tofu. For other generic things....shrink shrink. 2. When I'm ridiculously happy and excited OR tired, I become very very babyish and irritatingly high pitched [even to myself]. I even produce baby sounds. Yes. Nonsense baiscally. So, if anyone has seen me in those moods...err....They don't occur that often...hopefully. 3.My sister, Liz and I have a tradition of watching old videos of ourselves [kids praise and worship] when i'm back home for Christmas. We definitely sing along with 'Donut Man' Integrity Music stuff like "His banner over me is Love" and "Joy is the flag flown high". We combine all of this loud singing with weird scarf flourishes and jumping around the living r...

God is in control. But then, so are we

It's a really difficult theological issue. The Omni-potence of God. And the free will of men. The answer to the evils and the good of this world. Some people are fatalistic [Buddhists, Muslims, even some Christians]. No one can go against God and his will. Others say, no we can make or break our own lives. It's the 100% God, 100% man principle that's really difficult the grasp. It's true God is sovereign. But God willed that man shall choose [albeit within the boundaries He has set]. And man CAN choose. They can choose to be out of God's will. Or in it. One choice causes evil and suffering, one leads to love and peace. When I think about my future, I know it's safe in God's hands. But I also know, no matter what, I can also mess it up. I'm thinking till it hurts...about the stories in the Bible that show this. Samson, a classic example of a man with a great calling.[c'mon, an angel announced his birth. How many people have had that happen to them?]...
