Charismatic

Just a short short post before I scoot off to GoodTV for some projects.... I was Youtube-ing these 2 gals from High School Musical. They have some solo albums out. The music is horrendous I must say. Oh, very glossily produced. But as cliched and unoriginal as pop can get, and not even radio enjoyable! What ARE people thinking when they produce/write stuff like that? Sigh. Yuck yuck. Really. They are good singers and reasonable dancers, should be capable of so much more.

I have an idea of what kind of artist I want to be. I love a few types of music, and I would like to be able to write and release these few types in full-length albums.  Acoustic guitar music - Just a guitar, maybe a cello and light percussion and a back up vocalist. I would love to learn how to play decently on a few songs...on the others, want to work with a guitarist. Simple, sweet stuff, or witty jazzy little romps.  Soul/Motown/Funk - Full band. Drums, Funky Bass, Piano and Rhodes/Nord keys, wahwah guitars, the works. And maybe a few horns. Loveitloveitloveit. And of course, gospel back up vocalists who sing better than me for those lush harmonies. :P Piano and Strings - A Steinway Grand. And a string quartet. And a double bass. Emo kind of dramatics music. Just the piano and I sometimes. Latin music - salsa, bolero, merengue....singing and performing in this style is FUN FUN FUN. Add in dancing and heels and bright colours. I want to praise God while this is still fresh. Today was a good day. May there be more of these days. These past few months or rather, these 1.5 years have been full of turmoil mentally for me. Emotionally and spiritually, I'm quite at peace that I'm walking in God's will. But there has been so much to absorb and new things to learn that I've been quite mentally stressed. I often struggle from sleepless nights, because I'm too excited or agitated mentally.  Firstly, there's the alien-ness of the Chinese language. I absorb Chinese so much more slowly compared to English. :(. I have been trying REALLY hard to read Chinese books and articles. I finished a few books these holidays. For those who know me, it is an achievement...I've never really finished more than 1-2 Chinese books in my life. And I get really confused by people in Taiwan. Why are there so many male multi-instrumentalists? Male chefs? Male Fashion designers? I mean..cookery and fashion are female 'worlds'. But they have males on the top rung of the ladder of success. Somewhere somehow I read about men and their hobbies. They take their hobbies so seriously because they need to be in control of something somehow, and achieve something. That's why they can't just 'cook', they need to be a chef! They won't sew or draw generally, but if they do it's about being the renowned designer.  I think, in general, men have this extreme drive about hobbies, things or abilities they love that I don't see so much in women.
